Healthcare coverage is essential whether you are healthy, have diabetes, cancer, HIV/AIDS or any other condition. It is a matter of protecting your health. Because of the ACA, millions of people have healthcare. In ongoing honor of the 50th Anniversary of the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom, and in celebration of enrollment under the Affordable Care Act law, we are pleased to continue this special edition of our website. It is dedicated solely to the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act Law (referred to as the ACA, Obamacare, and Affordable Care Act). To affirm our commitment as a Champion for Coverage and for the elimination of racial and ethnic health disparities, our website is designed to help increase ACA awareness; facilitate and maximize enrollment, coverage and access to healthcare, screenings and other preventive services.
The ACA law is designed also to help address disparities, inequalities and injustices in health care. The African American Health Alliance (AAHA) along with the Racial and Ethnic Health Disparities Coalition (REHDC), which the Alliance chairs, worked with other organizations, individuals and elected officials to help make sure that the Law includes special provisions designed to help improve health and to reduce racial and ethnic health disparities. In fact, during the White House Health Care Summit our Director, Fredette West, asked and urged President Obama to please ensure that whatever health reform legislation he signed into law include provisions to address racial and ethnic health disparities. And, the Law does. From that Summit onward, the AAHA's and REHDC's intensified effort and energy helped to ensure inclusions of such provisions. After which, our efforts turned to assisting with implementation of the Law. We are proud of our collective efforts and achievements in also helping to ensure that the Law address the findings of the Institute of Medicine Report, Unequal Treatment: Confronting Racial and Ethnic Disparities in Health Care.
The African American Health Alliance and the Racial and Ethnic Health Disparities Coalition, once again, thank and commend President Obama and the Congress for having taken such action. Never before have all of us been so empowered to take charge of our health. Access to quality, affordable care that is culturally and linguistically appropriate is the Law. Sign up and take time to get the care and treatment, screenings and other preventive serves you and your family need.

"For 100 years, the nation has worked for healthcare for all. Now, that the first wonderful steps are available, all we have to do is SIGN UP. Ultimately, Obamacare (Affordable Care Act Law) will help us all. SIGN UP and disregard the
naysayers who want health-care-for-all to fail." -- 15th U.S. Surgeon General, M. Joycelyn Elders, MD
